The Starting Point
This open-plan kitchen extension benefits from excellent natural light, thanks to generous roof lights and full-width sliding doors to the garden. The space has strong architectural presence, with a long wall run that naturally lends itself to clean, uninterrupted cabinetry and a central island layout.
The goal was to create a kitchen that felt contemporary yet timeless — something refined, practical, and well-balanced within the bright, modern setting. Storage needed to be generous but streamlined, and the overall aesthetic had to complement the open-plan living area without overwhelming it.
The Design Concept
A two-tone scheme was introduced to bring both warmth and visual depth to the space.
Kashmir was selected for the main cabinetry along the wall run. This soft, neutral tone enhances the natural light from above and keeps the room feeling calm and spacious. Against the white quartz worktops and cladding, it creates a seamless and understated finish.
The island was finished in Heritage Green, adding contrast and character. Positioned centrally, the island naturally becomes a focal point, so introducing a deeper tone here anchors the layout and gives the kitchen personality without darkening the overall space. The contrast between the two colours feels balanced rather than bold, ensuring long-term appeal.
The shaker detailing of the Chatham vinyl doors introduces subtle texture, maintaining a classic profile while still fitting comfortably within a modern extension setting.

Functionality & Layout
The long wall run maximises storage and efficiency. Integrated appliances are neatly housed within tall cabinetry, creating a structured cooking zone while keeping sightlines clean.
The island serves multiple functions — preparation, storage, and social seating. Deep drawers provide practical everyday storage, while the overhanging quartz worktop allows comfortable seating, turning the island into a natural gathering point within the open-plan room.
All doors and drawers are fitted with soft-closing mechanisms, ensuring smooth operation and a premium feel in daily use.
Internally, the cabinetry features a Robson Oak finish, adding warmth and a natural wood tone when opened. This detail elevates the overall quality and creates a subtle contrast against the painted exterior.

Materials & Finishes
Quartz worktops and matching quartz cladding were chosen for both durability and aesthetic continuity. The seamless surface enhances brightness, reflects light from the roof windows, and provides a hard-wearing finish suitable for everyday family life.
The vinyl wrapped Chatham doors offer a smooth, consistent painted look with excellent durability and easy maintenance — ideal for busy households seeking both style and practicality.
