This project combines practical bedroom storage with a calm, elegant design that complements the architecture of the room. The installation features extra-tall built-in wardrobes paired with a bespoke bay window seating area, creating a balanced space that offers both functionality and visual harmony.

Soft light grey shaker doors bring a timeless feel to the room, while the Robson oak interior introduces warmth and contrast when the wardrobes are opened. The result is a bedroom that feels organised, bright, and thoughtfully designed for everyday living.

The Starting Point

The room benefits from generous ceiling height of approximately 3 metres and a beautiful bay window that fills the space with natural light. While these architectural features created a great foundation, the room previously lacked integrated storage that could fully utilise the available height.

The homeowners wanted to maximise wardrobe capacity while maintaining a clean and uncluttered appearance. At the same time, they hoped to make better use of the bay window area by incorporating a seating solution that would add both comfort and additional storage.

The challenge was to design a solution that would provide ample storage without overwhelming the room visually, while still allowing the natural light and architectural features to remain the focus.

The Design Approach

The wardrobes were designed using Bonn shaker doors in a soft light grey finish. This subtle colour works beautifully with the white walls and natural daylight entering through the bay window, helping the wardrobes blend seamlessly into the room rather than dominate it.

To complement the painted doors, the interior of the wardrobes was finished in Robson oak. This warm wood tone creates a natural contrast when the doors are opened and adds a sense of craftsmanship to the internal layout.

The shaker door style introduces gentle detailing that gives the wardrobes character without appearing overly decorative. Paired with simple dark handles, the overall look remains timeless and understated.

Making Use of the Height

One of the key advantages of this room was the 3-metre ceiling height, which allowed the wardrobes to be built extra tall. Rather than leaving unused space above standard wardrobes, the design extends cabinetry up to the ceiling line.

To ensure the upper hanging areas remain practical and accessible, pull-down wardrobe rails were installed. These clever mechanisms allow clothing stored at higher levels to be easily reached, making full use of the vertical space without sacrificing convenience.

Above the main wardrobe doors, additional overhead cabinets provide valuable storage for seasonal items, luggage, or less frequently used belongings. This helps keep the main wardrobe sections organised while maintaining a clean external appearance.

Internal Storage Layout

Inside the wardrobes, the storage was carefully organised to support different types of clothing and accessories.

The upper section features full-width hanging rails designed for coats, jackets, and longer garments. Below this, a combination of internal drawers and open shelving provides practical storage for folded clothing, accessories, and smaller items.

On one side, a secondary hanging rail creates additional space for shirts and shorter garments, ensuring the wardrobe layout accommodates a variety of storage needs.

The Robson oak interior finish enhances the visibility and warmth of the space, making the interior feel more like furniture rather than a simple storage cupboard.

Bespoke Bay Window Seating

To complement the wardrobes, a bespoke seating unit was installed within the bay window area. This feature transforms an otherwise unused space into a practical and inviting part of the room.

The seating unit includes integrated cabinet storage beneath the bench, allowing everyday items, bedding, or seasonal accessories to be stored neatly out of sight.

A Robson oak worktop was chosen for the seat surface, matching the wardrobe interiors and creating visual continuity across the room. The warm oak tone contrasts beautifully with the light grey cabinetry while maintaining a soft and natural palette.

Positioned beneath the windows, the seat benefits from abundant natural light and offers a comfortable place to relax, read, or simply enjoy the view.

The bay window plays an important role in the overall atmosphere of the room. Daylight flows across the seating area and reflects softly against the light grey cabinetry, helping the entire space feel bright and open.

Because the wardrobes were designed to fit the wall precisely, they appear integrated into the architecture rather than as freestanding furniture. This allows the room to maintain a calm and spacious feel despite the generous amount of storage.

The combination of soft colours, natural wood tones, and natural light creates a relaxing environment that feels both practical and comfortable.
