The Starting Point
This project centred around creating a modern, streamlined kitchen that would feel both practical and visually striking within a bright open-plan space. With generous natural light coming through the windows, the room offered the perfect setting for a bold cabinetry colour while still maintaining a light and welcoming atmosphere.
The brief was to deliver a kitchen that balanced contemporary styling with everyday functionality. Clean lines, clever storage solutions, and durable materials were key priorities, ensuring the space would work effortlessly for cooking, entertaining, and daily family life.
A central island layout was chosen to maximise the available floor space while creating a natural focal point within the room. The island also helps to define the kitchen zone while maintaining an open and sociable layout.
The Design Concept
The kitchen features a handleless painted Conifer finish, a deep green tone that adds richness and sophistication to the space. The handleless rail system enhances the minimalist design, creating smooth uninterrupted cabinetry lines that keep the overall look sleek and modern.
To balance the darker cabinetry, Calacatta Oro quartz worktops were selected. The bright surface with delicate gold and grey veining introduces elegance and contrast, helping to lift the colour palette and reflect natural light around the room.
The large island sits at the centre of the kitchen and acts as both a practical workspace and a social hub. With seating incorporated along one side, it provides a comfortable area for casual dining, morning coffee, or entertaining guests while remaining connected to the cooking space.
Pendant lighting above the island helps define the area visually while adding a warm decorative element to the design.
Functionality & Layout
The layout focuses on maintaining a clean, organised appearance while offering plenty of storage throughout the kitchen.
Tall cabinetry along the main wall houses integrated appliances, keeping them neatly concealed and maintaining the streamlined aesthetic of the handleless design. This arrangement creates an efficient cooking zone while allowing the island to function as the main preparation and gathering space.
A full-height pantry cupboard provides excellent internal storage. With shelving and internal drawers, it allows everyday items such as dry goods, small appliances, and kitchen essentials to be kept organised and easily accessible.
Deep drawers throughout the base units offer practical storage for cookware and utensils, ensuring everything has its place while keeping the work surfaces clutter-free.
Materials & Finishes
The Calacatta Oro quartz worktops provide a luxurious yet highly durable surface, ideal for busy kitchens. The subtle veining adds visual interest without overpowering the overall design, complementing the rich Conifer cabinetry beautifully.
Underfoot, Signature Laminate Lugano 8mm flooring was fitted throughout the space by kitchens4u. The warm wood tones soften the darker cabinetry and introduce a natural texture that ties the entire room together.
This flooring choice not only enhances the aesthetic but also offers durability and easy maintenance, making it well suited to a high-traffic kitchen environment.
