Thanks to our lovely customer for sharing photos of her beautifully completed kitchen. This project showcases a refined shaker design that blends timeless detailing with modern functionality.
The Starting Point
The kitchen space already benefited from strong architectural features. Large glazing and roof lights allowed plenty of natural daylight to enter the room, while the open-plan layout created a natural connection between the cooking and dining areas.
However, the previous layout lacked visual cohesion and efficient storage. Work surfaces were limited and the space didn’t fully take advantage of the available light or floor area. The homeowner wanted a kitchen that felt brighter, more structured, and better suited to everyday family cooking.
The goal of the redesign was to create a kitchen that maintained the warmth of the space while introducing cleaner lines, improved organisation, and a calm, balanced palette.
The Design Approach
The design centres around the Bastille shaker door in Legno White Grey, a soft neutral tone that works beautifully with natural light. The colour provides a gentle warmth compared to pure white cabinetry while remaining bright enough to keep the space feeling open and airy.
Paired with this cabinetry are Calacatta quartz worktops, chosen for their elegant veining and durable surface. The quartz introduces subtle movement across the worktops and island, creating visual interest without overwhelming the calm palette.
To bring contrast and definition into the design, brushed copper handles were selected. The warm metallic finish complements the soft grey cabinetry while adding a refined detail to the shaker door style.
A double Belfast sink was installed within the island, creating a practical preparation and washing area that also acts as a central focal point within the room.
Layout & Workflow
A key objective of this project was improving the overall workflow of the kitchen. The layout was organised into clear zones for cooking, preparation, cleaning, and storage.
The range cooker and chimney extractor form the centre of the cooking area, positioned along the main wall run. This creates a strong visual focal point while allowing generous worktop space on both sides for food preparation.
Opposite the cooking zone, the quartz island provides additional workspace and integrates the Belfast sink, making it a practical hub for daily use. Positioned beneath the skylight, the island benefits from natural daylight, which enhances the brightness of the quartz surface.
Tall cabinetry along the opposite wall houses the American-style fridge freezer, as well as additional larder storage. This helps keep larger appliances neatly integrated while maintaining clean visual lines throughout the kitchen.
Storage & Practical Features
Although the design appears simple and uncluttered, the kitchen incorporates several thoughtful storage solutions.
Deep drawer units replace traditional base cupboards wherever possible. These wide drawers allow cookware, utensils, and everyday items to be stored more efficiently while remaining easy to access.
Tall cabinets provide generous vertical storage, ideal for pantry items, small appliances, and bulk groceries. By concentrating taller units in one area, the remaining sections of the kitchen maintain a lighter, more open feel.
The island cabinetry also offers valuable additional storage while maintaining a clean, minimal appearance from the outside.

Materials & Finishes
Calacatta quartz was selected not only for its elegant appearance but also for its durability. Quartz surfaces are resistant to staining and scratching, making them well suited to busy kitchens.
The double Belfast sink introduces a classic element that works beautifully with the shaker cabinetry. Its generous size makes it practical for washing large cookware and everyday use.
The combination of warm copper hardware, soft grey shaker doors, and subtle quartz veining creates a layered yet understated palette that feels timeless rather than trend-driven.

Lighting & Atmosphere
Natural light plays a key role in this kitchen. The large skylight above the island floods the space with daylight, highlighting the quartz worktops and reflecting light across the cabinetry.
A statement pendant light fixture above the island adds architectural interest while also providing focused task lighting in the evening.
The result is a kitchen that feels bright and welcoming throughout the day while remaining cosy and atmospheric at night.
The Finished Kitchen
The completed kitchen is a perfect balance of classic shaker design and modern practicality. Legno White Grey cabinetry keeps the space light and refined, while quartz worktops and copper hardware introduce subtle character.
The improved layout ensures that cooking, preparation, and storage all work together seamlessly. From the Belfast sink island to the tall storage wall, every element was designed to support everyday living while maintaining a clean and elegant aesthetic.
The result is a kitchen that not only looks beautiful in photographs but functions effortlessly for daily family life.
